Inspired by Harley Davidson’s first ever-made motorcycle vest (circa 1920) and Digger’s father’s old vest (read story here), Clutch Monkey believes they have created something really special for the women out there that rule the road. We at Whiskey Grade completely agree. Clutch Monkey created the Dame Vest which like the Dig Vest, aims at putting the same great heavy duty materials on a female form.
Clutch Monkey went with a 12.5 oz. Nisshinbo Mill selvedge denim. Nisshinbo was founded in 1907 with the aim of producing the finest fabrics with their most popular being their ring-spun selvedge denim, which is consistently regarded by denim enthusiasts to be second-to-none in terms of both quality and durability. This weight is a bit lighter than the previous denims we’ve offered but it will be a bit more comfortable and form fitting out of the gate.
The lining for the vest is made with a 10 oz. Japanese made wool blend (95% wool/poly) “Troy” blanket fabric. Troy Mill was one of the oldest Mills in the U.S. – famous for making fitted horse blankets and for lining Levi’s work-wear jackets in the 60’s and earlier decades. Unfortunately, Troy shut down over 40 years ago but the Japanese have figured out how to make a replica that’s better than the original. Considered by some to be the “Steed’s Serape”, we are proud to offer this beautiful fabric up as a very special and rare lining.
The pistol pocket of the Dame will be lined with a heavyweight charcoal waxed Army duck-cloth, which is water repellent & made to last a lifetime. As this fabric ages, it develops a well-worn and comfortable patina, which develops in the same manner that leather ages and burnishes with time. This fabric has been made and sold in America for seven generations and the unique waxing process is cloaked in family secrecy.
